Tips/Links for The Beginning Planner

this post contains affiliate links. click here to read my full disclosure. thank you.

This post is an addendum to Pt. 3 of my “5 Decisions” post series, Ordering My Life.

Below is a list of everything I could think of, to help a beginner get started with time-management and planning.

I tried to list most of the basic topics to get started. There are so many choices and systems it’s hard to cover them all. However, the upside to that is that you’re bound to find the right one for you. You’ve just gotta keep looking and trying them out. Don’t get caught in the trap of ‘failure’ and frustration. It’s just a search/experiment for the right tool for you.

Planning Systems

There are now planning systems for almost every type of learner or mental processing type. Whether you’re visual, linear, logistic, analytical, aesthetically motivated, have ADHD, or mental/physical body limitations, there are now options out there for you.

Like I said in the ‘Ordering My Life’ post, this is about YOU getting what YOU NEED to have a better life. Finding that TOOL. That’s all this is… a TOOL.  A tool to ease that scramble/survival feeling. To help in placing control back in your hands.

I tried to link to the most concise (shortest!), neutral, ‘just the facts’ videos. The YouTube Planner Community can be a voyage into a perfectionist Crazy Town. When, or if, you decide to start searching, you better tether yourself down to something good and strong… you might need that rope to pull yourself out! Godspeed young traveler… (yank 3 times to let us know you’re okay) hahaha

Pro tip: You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a efficient planning system.

Some people like to have the expensive and pretty planners, because they say it helps motivate them by being able to look at their ‘’looming’ tasks in a beautiful setting.  It makes them want to pick up their planners everyday.

For others, though, it hinders them. Being afraid to mess up or make mistakes, they actually never start using their books. If you use a cheap composition book, there is no worry of messing up a $40.00
‘hard-to-get-a-hold-of-flown-in-from-japan-been-on-a-waiting-list-for-3-months’ journal. A person may also need the simple, plain, free from distraction pages in order to see what they have to do.

Everyone’s different, and it’s all about figuring out what works for you.

Another fun fact… some people jump around from system to system.

As the needs of a person’s life changes, they may find their system doesn’t work anymore for their current situation. This is a good thing to keep in mind.

There are also MANY digital planning and organizational apps out there. I will do a separate post on those.

Hope this is a help to someone who needs it.
Best,
Tru
