LIFE FOR THE “OTHERS”

Elementary school aged black young girls in front of school bus in early 1970s during desgregation in Los Angeles California.

School busing and race tore L.A. apart in the 1970s.

So I was a part of this.  Not in L.A. County, but in what is considered one of the most racists counties in So Cal.

For me, it was in 1972.  The experience was horrifying.  The bullshit and violence directed at me as a 3rd grade child from students and faculty was jarring.  Truth came to me at a very young age.

None of what is happening now is new.  It’s been occurring underneath the radar all this time.  I have never NOT experienced racism.  That is just a fact for us, whether we are in denial about it or not.  It’s the air we breathe, the water we swim in, in this fishbowl called America.

We are raised in it.  We learn to function in it.  The only options being to either deny it, or learn to live in quiet//loud sustained rage.

Right now, we are the closest we have gotten to actually beginning to get a handle on it.   And the ‘it’ I’m talking about here is Systemic Racism, not Racism.   Racism is a personal belief system, choice.  You can’t change people’s way of thinking.  But if the beliefs are harmful to others, they can be regulated//managed with checks, balances, and consequences.  Systemic Racism is a contract.  Contracts can be contested, and re drawn.

People are now facing The Truth…  that there has been existing, right in front of their eyes, a world they could not see before.  This is big.  This is the start.  And I hope that the things that have been seen, cannot and will not be ‘unseen’ again.

All The Love To The Protesters out there using Voice and Body!
All The Honor To The Fallen in this racist war that’s been ongoing since the founding of this country!
